The question lands on the big screen.
Pick a grade, subject and term. RetroEd reads the question aloud, in English or Afrikaans, and then the timer starts.
RetroEd helps South African primary schools turn quiz revision into a fun game show — on a Smart Board, projector or laptop, with no internet needed and no monthly fees. We're getting ready to launch, and we'd love you to be part of it from day one.
Pick a grade, subject and term. RetroEd reads the question aloud, in English or Afrikaans, and then the timer starts.
Four team colours match the four answers. On a Smart Board or touch laptop each team taps its big colour pad, or you press keys 1–4. Team A chose green, so that's D, and RetroEd records it on the spot. Wireless buzzers (drawn below) are on the way as an optional add-on.
Right answer: ten points to Team A, and the scoreboard updates on the spot. Nothing to mark, nothing to add up.
Speed Buzz, A/B/C/D, Exam Prep, Fast Finisher, Students vs Teachers, Reading Comprehension and Challenge Mode. All from the same question bank.
Most school technology needs fast internet, a device for every learner, and a monthly fee. Most South African schools don't have these things. RetroEd works differently: just one laptop or Smart Board, and thousands of curriculum questions — no internet needed, ever.
It feels less like homework and more like a real game show — so learners actually look forward to revising.
Every subject is checked term by term against the Department of Basic Education's CAPS documents for its grade.
RetroEd is built and ready to try in real classrooms today. Here's honestly where we are, and what's next.
A complete quiz game for laptops, projectors and Smart Boards, with over 16 000 curriculum questions for Grades 3–7.

It is built for one. Smart Board mode gives big touch-friendly buttons, on-screen team pads, an on-screen keyboard for typing names, and a calibration tool for screen edges, size and touch alignment. We are testing it in pilot classrooms now, so tell us which board you have when you register.

RetroEd
Proudly South AfricanThe idea behind RetroEd is simple: build easy-to-use technology that works without the internet or a power socket, for people who don't usually get new tools first — but sell it to anyone who wants it.
RetroEd is the first of a few products built on that same idea — more coming soon.
